Day 4 of the MOD X Scotland Exchange 2025 (our final day)!

Thursday, November 6th was our last day of the exchange. We started out with a tour of the semi-automated CCG facility (sorry, photos not allowed). Unlike other offsite wood-based manufacturers we saw on this trip, CCG makes a closed planel product. It was facinating to learn how CCG is so vertically integrated with their estate of seven different entities (and 700 employees) focused on manufacturing such items as windows, solar power systems, and doors that supply their closed panel factory.

Our second stop of the day was to see the new town of Winchburgh comprised fully of homes built with offsite wood panel products from various area manufacturers. With 1,500 units already built and 500 units under production, they are well on their way to meet their target of 4,000 units in total that will house about 14,000 people.

We culminated the day (and our wonderful trip) with some sightseeing along Scotland’s revitalized canal system. We were able to access the interior of the tremendous 100-foot Kelpies scuplture. We then took in the view of the Falkirk Wheel, an engineering marvel that replaced 10 disfunctional locks. Fun fact: it uses the energy equivalent to heating 8 teakettles to initiate a rotation???
