The Baltimore Modular Initiative
BMOD was co-founded in 2024 by the Maryland Center for Construction Education and Innovation (MCCEI) and Vertical Architecture Enterprises, LLC (vAE). Our core team has now expanded to include representatives from Morgan State University (MSU). We are dedicated to accelerating industrialized offsite construction in Baltimore and Maryland to deliver affordable housing at scale. Combining MCCEl's deep connections to Maryland's architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sector; vAE's decades long experience in the programming, design, coordination and management of large-scale projects; the research capacity of MSU; and the expertise from our advisors at MOD X, we strive to foster an ecosystem for informed dialogue on the challenges and opportunities for offsite industrialized construction. This ecosystem continues to expand and deepen as our conversations have grown to include various state and city representatives and community development organizations.
MCCEI is a Baltimore-based, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to advancing the construction industry in Maryland while expanding its workforce through innovative programs that create career pathways in the construction fields. vAE is a certified Women's Business Enterprise (WBE), full-service architecture practice based in Baltimore, known for its expertise in delivering complex, large-scale renovation and new construction projects for major institutions. vAE brings this large-project approach to the question of how to address housing challenges at scale.
