Day 2 of the MOD X Scotland Exchange 2025!

We started our day speaking with Prof. Robert Hairstans at Edinburgh Napier University where we learned about how he is advancing timber modern methods of construction. This was followed by a tour of his Timber Technology Lab where we saw various wood product research efforts. We also were given a presentation of the Edinburgh Home Demonstrator project, a new approach to meet Scotland’s housing needs through offsite construction.

Our next stop was the Walker Timber Limited where we saw their extensive offsite manufacturing facilities. While their approach was less automated than Alexander, we were in awe of the amount of products they were turning out. But in order to meet growing housing demand, they do have plans to ramp up production with the installation of a more automated line in the coming years.

And our day ended at the Port of Leith Distillery!
